Brimi

Between Hay and Heart

The Fallerhof in Laion is a place where passion, unity, and a forward-looking spirit shape both work and life. GÜNTHER PEIRER and MONIKA GUFLER combine tradition and modernity, nature and family at their farm, situated 1,200 meters above sea level—creating a space full of life and energy.

A cold, rainy December morning does little to dampen the warmth of the Fallerhof. On this day, the “Brimi Kurier” is visiting, and it’s immediately clear that this is more than just a workplace: children's laughter rings out across the yard, bicycles are parked in front of the house, and colorful chalk drawings decorate the pavement. Monika and Günther welcome the "Brimi Kurier" with a natural warmth that is instantly contagious. “There’s always something going on here,” says Monika with a joyful smile, as the children dart about curiously. The farm is full of life—even the grey weather seems to disappear.

Education from the Heart
Monika, who grew up on a farm in Stuls in the Passeier Valley, brings her experience and enthusiasm to life at the Fallerhof.

Together, Günther and Monika make a true dream team. While he is responsible for the land and animals, Monika takes care of the garden, the kitchen, and her “School on the Farm.” This project is particularly close to her heart: children and school classes get to experience what farming really means—up close. Whether baking bread, churning butter, or felting sheep’s wool, Monika leads each activity with passion and skill. After a guided tour of the farm, young visitors are always treated to a snack made from homemade products. “Everything is zero kilometers,” Monika proudly notes.

The farm covers 14 hectares of meadows, 10 of which are owned by the family. On a small field, they grow potatoes, grains, and vegetables such as carrots and zucchini. The fruit trees provide apples and pears, which Monika turns into juices. In addition to school groups and families, tourists are increasingly discovering the Fallerhof as a destination. Whether for a farm tour, a tasting of the farm’s products, or simply a cup of coffee with a view of the surrounding mountains—the farm is a place where visitors feel welcome and can experience authentic rural life. The couple’s own children are always involved and never bored. At the farm, work and family go hand in hand. Everyone has their place and their role. “I’m simply a mom,” Monika says modestly, though her work goes far beyond that.

A Farm in Transition
Günther took over the farm in October 2018, initially alongside his job as a carpenter. In 2019, he began building a new barn, which he constructed almost entirely by himself. “It was a challenging time, but it was worth it,” he says. Functionality and the animals’ needs were always his priority. Construction was completed in May 2020, making daily operations much more efficient. Günther, who has a well-thought-out plan for every detail, places great importance on animal nutrition. He carefully monitors the components of the milk to ensure that his animals are optimally cared for. “The animals’ health is reflected in the quality of the milk,” he explains. With 15 cows, 12 calves, sheep, goats, chickens, rabbits, and more, the farm is full of life. Since October 2024, the Fallerhof has been delivering hay milk. The farm’s sunny location makes it easier to dry hay, and the quality of the milk speaks for itself.

A Sense of Community
The Fallerhof is more than just a place of agriculture—it’s a vibrant meeting point that enriches village life. Whether it’s hosting choir practices for church or children's groups organized by Monika, or Günther’s active involvement in farming associations, the riflemen’s club, or local politics—the farm is deeply rooted in the community. Despite their many projects, their focus remains clear: the family. They do have big plans, such as expanding the second farmstead, but they approach it all with calm and balance. “We don’t want to overextend ourselves. It’s important to us to stay grounded and make the best of what we have.”

The Fallerhof is a lively place of connection—where people come together, stories are shared, and valuable knowledge is passed on. A place where there is much to learn—and where the next generation is already beginning to carry forward timeless values into the future.
